PhD student position in marine turtle spatial ecology 3

05/05/2024

The Marine Sustainability Ecology Lab at Old Dominion University in Virginia is seeking a PhD student for a project on spatial ecology and conservation of marine turtles.

The project

The project will require working with satellite tracking data, as well as other spatial data relevant to sea turtles such as remotely-sensed oceanographic data and nesting beach distributions. The project will focus on analysis and synthesis of existing data sets, though the potential for some field work does exist.

The candidate

We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated skills in R (or similar programing language) and ArcGIS (or similar software), and Master’s degree or professional experience in spatial ecology. A top candidate with strong GRE scores and a competitive GPA will be eligible for a four-year scholarship, in addition to at least one additional fully funded year of study. The ideal candidate would also have database management experience and fluency in Spanish and/or French. Experience with marine turtles is not necessary, however, knowledge of R and ArcGIS (or similar programs) is required to be considered.
