Clodagh has worked for the North West Shelf Flatback Turtle Conservation Program (NWSFTCP) since 2023. Her role involves engaging and empowering students and communities in marine turtle conservation. This includes the transformation of science from research publications and datasets into social media content, media releases, magazine articles, videos, website content, education resources and lessons, and more.
Having eight years of secondary science teaching experience and a background in zoology, Clodagh applies her understanding of scientific concepts and best educational practice to create and deliver a suite of educational resources for teachers and students in Perth and regional Western Australia. She regularly visits schools across the Pilbara and Kimberley, where she is passionate about connecting local communities to marine turtles and conservation through the co-design of resources, two-way learning and field experiences.
"Research shows that engaging the local community in on-ground conservation is critical to the success of long-term conservation programs, such as the NWSFTCP. Environmental education is vital to nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards equipped with the knowledge and passion to address environmental challenges of the future."
The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional owners throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
