The NWSFTCP has been working with the Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation on Ngarluma Ngurra (Ngarluma Country) since 2017 when the Program took over annual monitoring of Delambre Island from Rio Tinto. The Program employs Ngarluma Traditional Custodians as staff members for both the month-long nesting surveys and week-long hatchling surveys on Delambre Island.

Employment of Ngarluma Traditional Custodians not only provides capacity building and job pathway opportunities, but also promotes two-way learning and improved cultural awareness, understanding and relations. Together we are exploring options to build on this partnership, identifying and undertaking projects that will align to Ngarluma Traditional Custodians’ aspirations for Land and Sea Country Management.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional owners throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
